Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez is allegedly attracting interest from two European giants during the January transfer window.

Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez is allegedly attracting interest from two of European football's top clubs.

The Uruguay international has played a regular part in Liverpool's attack under Arne Slot, making 14 starts and 12 substitute outings in all competitions.

However, his contribution of just four goals and four assists is considerably below expectations, the £85m signing having squandered chances in the final third throughout 2024-25.

As a result, speculation persists that the Premier League leaders could consider facilitating a departure for the 25-year-old if his form does not improve.

Earlier this week, a report indicated that Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal had expressed an interest in pushing through a deal worth in the region of £70m.

Which European giants could enter race?

That particular report claimed that Liverpool were not prepared to conduct business involving Nunez midway through the season, while it did not mention what stance has been taken by Nunez.

According to Fichajes, AC Milan and Atletico Madrid are each monitoring the situation in the event that Nunez becomes available.

The report suggests that the Italian and Spanish giants are both interested in adding the former Benfica star to their squads before the end of the January window.

In contrast to the previous report, it alleges that Liverpool would be prepared to consider suitable loan proposals for Nunez. A permanent bid, at this stage, is realistically off the table.

What is the alleged view of AC Milan, Atletico?

AC Milan face the prospect of a rebuild to a certain extent with the club 16 points off the pace in Serie A and having recently appointed a new head coach on Sergio Conceicao.

The Portuguese alleges view Nunez as a 'high-level reinforcement' with Milan netting just 29 goals from 19 top-flight fixtures during 2024-25.

No player has netted more than five times in the league, with Alvaro Morata and Tammy Abraham scoring just seven times between them.

Meanwhile, Atletico are said to deem Nunez as a potential alternative to Antoine Griezmann, who may leave Diego Simeone's side during the summer.

Although Julian Alvarez and Alexander Sorloth already represent strong options in the final third, Atletico would require a high-profile name to replace someone of Griezmann's standing.
