Viborg FF's pursuit of the European playoff spot in the Danish Superliga will continue on Monday evening, when they travel to Lyngby Boldklub.
The visitors are currently second in the Relegation round, one point behind the leaders Randers, while relegation-threatened Lyngby occupy fourth position with two games left.
Match preview
Lyngby boast a record of eight wins, eight draws and 14 defeats from their 30 league matches this season, which has left them in fourth spot in the Relegation round on 32 points.
The Royal Blues are certainly looking over their shoulder, as they are only three points ahead of fifth-placed Odense, with the teams in fifth and sixth being relegated to the second tier.
Hvidovre have already been relegated, but Odense are bidding to catch Lyngby, while Vejle in third are also not out of the relegation picture, so a lot could happen in the final stages of the season.
David Nielsen's side will enter this match off the back of a 1-0 defeat to Vejle, but they have picked up six points from the last nine available, beating Randers and Odense earlier this month.
Lyngby have only actually lost three times at home in the league this season, and they will be welcoming a Viborg outfit with the second-worst away record in the Danish Superliga in 2023-24.
Indeed, Viborg have picked up only 12 points from their 15 away league games this term, losing nine times in the process.
The Greens are currently second in the Relegation round, though, picking up 37 points from their 30 matches, which has left them just one point behind Randers.
First in the Relegation round of the Danish Superliga equals a spot in the European playoff match against the team that finishes third in the Championship round, with the winner securing a spot in the Conference League second qualifying round for next season.
Jakob Poulsen's side will enter this match off the back of successive defeats, though, going down 2-1 at home to Velje on May 12 before losing 1-0 at Randers three days later.
Viborg will finish their regular season at home to Odense on May 25, and it is likely that they will have to win both of their matches to stand a chance of finishing at the top of the Relegation round.
Team News
Lyngby will be without the services of Pascal Gregor on Monday, with the defender picking up a milestone yellow card in the clash with Vejle last time out.
Magnus Jensen is also out due to ligament damage, while Alfred Finnbogason, Rezan Corlu and David Jensen will miss the contest.
Johan Meyer is expected to be the player to benefit from Gregor's absence, while there will be a spot in the final third of the field for 15-goal centre-forward Andri Gudjohnsen.
As for Viborg, a lengthy injury list includes Magnus Westergaard, Jamie Jacobs, Jacob Bonde and Lucas Lund, while Martin Agnarsson and Mads Lauritsen are also fitness doubts.
Serginho, who has scored twice this season, is again expected to feature in the final third, while there will also be a spot for six-goal left-side attacker Isak Jensen.
Malik Abubakari has scored twice in 12 appearances for the club this season and is also expected to be included in the starting XI on Monday night.
Lyngby Boldklub possible starting lineup:
Storch; Meyer, Bjelland, Lissens; Storm, Romer, Winther, Finnsson; Magnusson, Gudjohnsen, Amon
Viborg FF possible starting lineup:
Mantl; Kuzmic, Burgy, Zaletel, Bundgaard; Mbom, Gronning, Sondergaard; Serginho, Abubakari, Jensen
We say: Lyngby Boldklub 0-1 Viborg FF
Both sides have something to fight for in the final stages of the season, which is likely to make this a very tense match. We are not expecting many goals on Monday evening but believe that Viborg will be able to navigate their way to a very important three points in their fight to make the European playoff match.
