Hubert Fournier: 'Lyon can cope without Alexandre Lacazette'

Lyon head coach Huber Fournier insists that his side are capable of being successful without top scorer Alexandre Lacazette.

Lyon head coach Hubert Fournier has insisted that his side do not rely too heavily on leading goalscorer Alexandre Lacazette.

A thigh injury has kept Lacazette out in recent weeks, and Lyon have not managed to win any of the five Ligue 1 games which the striker has missed this season.

However, Fournier believes that the league leaders are in their current position due to the form of the entire squad, rather than just the performances of the 23-year-old, who has scored 21 league goals this season.

"At the same time there have been games this season when Alexandre has played and Lyon haven't scored. But I don't want to play down his importance - after all he's the top scorer in the league and been involved in nearly 50 percent of our goals," Fournier told BeIN Sports.

"In terms of the goals he's scored and set up, he's a key player in our attack. But it would be disrespectful to the rest of the team to say it's all about him. Our results have been acquired through team play, even though we're fully aware that Lacazette has provided the team with something special in certain games."

Laczaette, who returned to training on Friday, is expected to miss out when Lyon meet Lorient on Sunday.
