Ten-man Wolfsburg stutter to defeat

Wolfsburg lose to Mainz 05 in the Bundesliga, with goals coming from Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Nicolai Muller.

Mainz 05 have beaten Wolfsburg 2-0 in the Bundesliga, with the visitors reduced to 10 men.

Both sides started the game with a solid shape, which made chances hard to come by. The only real efforts in the opening 10 minutes came from Nicolai Muller for Mainz and Ricardo Rodriguez for Wolfsburg, but both shot high and wide.

Vieirinha then came close on 15 minutes, with a right-footed shot from outside the box turned around the post by Heinz Muller.

Wolfsburg continued to resort to shots from range, with Diego the next player to try his luck but his shot went well over.

Koo Ja-Cheol had a good chance with a header not long after the restart, but his low attempt was kept out.

In the 60th minute it was the hosts who opened the scoring. Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting was found in space by a Bo Svensson header to tap in from close range.

Four minutes later new signing Luiz Gustavo was shown his second yellow card and the visitors' task was made even harder with a Muller goal in the 78th minute.
