Wilfried Bony surprised by Garry Monk sacking by Swansea City

Manchester City striker Wilfried Bony concedes that he was "sad" to see Garry Monk sacked by his former club Swansea City.

Manchester City striker Wilfried Bony has admitted that he was surprised to see Garry Monk sacked by Swansea City.

The Swans parted company with the 36-year-old following a poor run of form in the Premier League, despite Monk guiding the club to their record points tally in an eight-place finish last season.

Bony has confessed that he is also sad to see the Welsh outfit struggle this season due to his affinity for his former club, and is hopeful that they will be able to turn the corner.

He told the club's official website: "It's a pity to see him go, but football is crazy. I thought he did well and they had a really good season last year so it's a shame.

"It's difficult to see Swansea struggling because they are the club that brought me to England and allowed me to establish myself in the Premier League and win a move to City so I will always have respect for the club and their fans.

"I hope things turn around for them and that by the end of the season they are on an upward curve again."

City face Swansea in their Premier League clash later today.
