Manchester City owner Sheik Mansour reportedly opens formal contract talks with manager Roberto Mancini over a new three-year deal.

Manchester City have reportedly opened formal contract talks with manager Roberto Mancini.

The Italian has one year remaining on his current £2m-per-year salary but City owner Sheik Mansour is keen to reward him with a longer and more lucrative deal, following the club's first English championship triumph in 44 years.

Mancini flew to the Middle East last week and has now begun discussions with Mansour over a three-year contract worth £15m, according to the Daily Mail.

If Mancini agrees to those terms he will become the second-highest-paid manager in the Premier League - behind Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, who is believed to earn £6m per year.
