Victor Font: 'Pep Guardiola will want Barcelona return'

Barcelona presidential candidate Victor Font claims that Pep Guardiola will want to return to the club in the future and insists that the door is open for him to do so.

Barcelona presidential candidate Victor Font has talked up the possibility of Pep Guardiola returning to the club in the future.

Guardiola spent 17 years as a player at Camp Nou, helping the club to 15 trophies including six La Liga titles and the 1991-92 European Cup, before leading them as a manager during the club's most successful period.

Barca won a further 14 trophies with him at the helm, including three league titles and two Champions Leagues, but he has since suggested that he has no intention of returning for a second spell as manager.

Guardiola only recently signed a two-year extension at Manchester City, but Font is confident that the 49-year-old will want to return at some point in the future and insists that the door is open for him.

"The project that we've been working on is one that will try to create, if we are honoured to be chosen, the right conditions for this top talent, that is very much linked to Barca, to return to their club at some point in time," Font told BBC Sport.

"And we know, that at some point, Pep will want to return, even if it's for personal reasons. Hopefully sooner rather than later we will be able to create those conditions and be able to count on Pep's talent for the good of the club."

Since leaving Barcelona, Guardiola has gone on to win a further 15 trophies with Bayern Munich and Manchester City.
