Manchester City right-back Joao Cancelo takes to Instagram to show injuries to his face sustained in an attack by four people, who attempted to rob his home.

Manchester City right-back Joao Cancelo has been assaulted by four "cowards" in a home robbery attack on Thursday.

The 27-year-old has enjoyed his best season in the attacking third for Man City, scoring on three occasions and providing seven assists in 25 appearances across all competitions.

However, on Thursday Cancelo took to Instagram to reveal injuries to his face that he sustained in a robbery attempt on his home, where he lives with his partner and baby daughter.

His post read: "Unfortunately today I was assaulted by four cowards who hurt me and tried to hurt my family. When you show resistance this is what happens.

"They managed to take all my jewellery and leave me with my face with this state. I don't know how there are people with such meanness. The most important thing for me is my family and luckily they are all ok. After so many obstacles in my life, this is just one more that I will overcome. Firm and strong, like always."

The attack happened just a day after Cancelo was in West London playing for Pep Guardiola's side in their 3-0 win against Brentford.
