Danny Mills "not surprised" by Roberto Mancini sacking

Danny Mills says that it was no surprise to see Roberto Mancini sacked as Manchester City manager.

Former Manchester City defender Danny Mills has revealed that he was not surprised by Roberto Mancini's sacking at his old club on Wednesday night.

The Italian was relieved of his duties having failed to win a trophy this season, exactly a year after he won City's first Premier League title as well the FA Cup the previous campaign.

While he admits that Mancini will go down in the club's history after ending their 35-year trophy drought in 2011, Mills believes that the club need a manager who is producing consistent results.

"He will go down in Manchester City folklore for winning their first trophy in 35 years," Mills told BBC Sport. "But only meeting one of the five targets, he's obviously failed on what he was asked to do.

"City's standing and expectations are completely different to those of a Reading or a Southampton."

Mancini spent just under four years in charge at the Etihad Stadium.
