Manuel Pellegrini: 'Willy Caballero has brought out the best in Joe Hart'

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini feels that the competition provided by Willy Caballero has improved Joe Hart as a goalkeeper this season.

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini believes that the arrival of Willy Caballero has brought out the best in Joe Hart this season.

Pellegrini signed the Argentine from Malaga for a fee in the region of £6m from to provide competition for the 28-year-old, and he feels that the rivalry between the duo has improved the level of Hart's performances this campaign.

The Chilean also feels that the England keeper may has benefitted from the coaching of Xavi Mancisidor throughout the season.

"The arrival of Willy Caballero was very important for Joe Hart," Pellegrini told reporters. "All players, not only goalkeepers, have their best performances when they have competition behind them.

"I have always worked with Xavi Mancisidor at Real Madrid and Malaga because he knows the way I like the goalkeeper to play - not only saving goals but starting attacks.

"If you have a good goalkeeper who knows how to play football you have one player more at a lot of moments, especially in the build-up."

City play Swansea City in their Premier League clash at the Liberty Stadium later today.
