Manuel Pellegrini concedes that it was best for both Manchester City and Carlos Tevez that they parted ways.

New Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has revealed that he got the impression from Carlos Tevez that the Argentinian no longer wanted to play for the club.

Following much speculation, the 29-year-old departed the Etihad Stadium for Italian champions Juventus last month.

Having spoken to the striker soon after his appointment, Pellegrini admitted that it was "best" for both parties that Tevez moved on.

"I spoke with Carlos a few weeks ago. I felt he didn't want to stay here anymore. It was the best choice for the club and Carlos," he told reporters.

Tevez joined City in 2009 following a two-year stint with rivals Manchester United.
