Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez admits that he has a long way to go before winning universal support from fans in Eastlands following last season's lengthy absence.

Carlos Tevez has declared that he is fighting to win back the trust of Manchester City fans as his turbulent spell at the Etihad Stadium continues.

The Argentine striker spent seven months away from the club last season without permission but came back to help City lift the Premier League title.

Tevez has admitted that he still has to win over a large section of City fans, despite repairing his relationship with manager Roberto Mancini.

He told The Times: "I knew it wasn't going to be easy to come back. I'd left City and you could almost say I'd left through the back door.

"I knew it would be difficult for the fans to accept me again. But I hope, little by little, match by match that you give everything for the shirt and win them over through hambre de gloria (hunger for glory).

"it is almost like there are two Tevezes. There's the Tevez before, who had a problem, and there's the Tevez now, who no longer has problems. I was once a real idol for these fans, they were so supportive of me. I hope I'm able to win them back."

The 29-year-old has 11 goals in all competitions for City so far this season.
