How Manchester City could line up against Everton

Sports Mole looks at how Manchester City could line up in Wednesday's Premier League clash with Everton.

Manchester City will be looking to make it back-to-back Premier League wins when they welcome Everton to the Etihad Stadium on New Year's Day.

Pep Guardiola's side bounced back from their 3-2 loss at Wolverhampton Wanderers by recording a 2-0 victory over Sheffield United on Sunday.

The reigning champions remain 14 points off league leaders Liverpool, though, and Jurgen Klopp's side also have a game in hand over the Manchester giants.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how City could line up when they take to the field on Wednesday.

City will again be without the services of Leroy Sane and Aymeric Laporte due to long-term knee injuries, although both players are entering the latter stages of their recoveries.

David Silva and John Stones are also doubts with the issues that they suffered in the Manchester derby earlier this month, but Sergio Aguero came through the clash against Sheffield United with no adverse effects and should start at the tip of the attack.

Eric Garcia could keep his spot in central defence having impressed against the Blades, while Ilkay Gundogan is in line to feature in the middle of the park.

Joao Cancelo for Kyle Walker is an alteration which could happen on the right side of the back four, while Benjamin Mendy is another option should Guardiola wish to shuffle his pack.

Riyad Mahrez is the likeliest to drop out of the starting XI, with Raheem Sterling and Kevin De Bruyne certain to start as the champions go in search of their 14th league victory of the campaign.

Ederson will also return between the sticks, having served a one-match suspension against Chris Wilder's team following his red card in the loss at Wolves.
