Willy Caballero: 'Manchester City could sign Lionel Messi'

Manchester City have the "economic power" needed to prise Lionel Messi from Barcelona, according to the Premier League club's second-choice goalkeeper Willy Caballero.

Manchester City goalkepper Willy Caballero has claimed that it is 'very possible' that his club could sign Barcelona attacker Lionel Messi.

It has been speculated that Man City are becoming increasingly confident of enticing Messi away from Barca, despite his incredible success in Spain.

The Premier League outfit are believed to be one of only a couple of clubs that could realistically afford to sign the Argentine, and Caballero has said that a deal is "possible" due to Man City's "massive economic power".

"That subject is talked about a lot and it's inevitable not to think or speak about it. And then when you think that Kun (Sergio Aguero) is at the club and he's such a good friend of Messi," Caballero told Goal.com.

"But until he's signed or not it's nothing more than a rumour. But yes, I understand that it's possible, because this club has massive economic power. The expensive players that the club has at the moment shows that it can deal with high prices.

"Because of that it seems that they can try to sign Messi if he decides to leave Barcelona. No doubt that City can get Messi, but everything depends on what Leo wants to do."

Messi recently helped Barcelona win the Club World Cup, following on from their La Liga, Copa del Rey and Champions League success earlier in the year.
