Manchester City have reportedly earmarked Inter Milan's Lautaro Martinez and Borussia Dortmund's Erling Braut Haaland as priority transfer targets for the summer of 2021.
Pep Guardiola currently has Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus to call upon at the Etihad Stadium, but both players have struggled with injuries this term, leaving Ferran Torres to lead the line on a couple of occasions.
Furthermore, Aguero's contract with the Citizens expires next summer and the Argentine's future remains shrouded in uncertainty, but with Aguero now 32 years old, City will undoubtedly have to start preparing for life without their talismanic attacker soon.
According to 90min, Guardiola's side are still optimistic that Aguero will pen an extension, but the powers that be have started eyeing up potential replacements in the forms of Haaland and Martinez.
Man City are believed to be genuine contenders for Haaland's signature following his stellar displays for Dortmund, but the report claims that the Premier League giants may be forced to concede defeat if Real Madrid step up their interest.
As a result, a move for Martinez supposedly looks more likely, with the 23-year-old remaining at Inter despite strong interest from Barcelona, who are now thought to be financially incapable of signing him.
Martinez has struck five times and provided two assists for Inter in all competitions this season, whereas Haaland has already notched up 11 goals and three assists for Dortmund.
