Manchester City 'to complete world-record John Stones deal this week'

Manchester City will reportedly wrap up a world-record £53m deal to sign John Stones from Everton in the next few days.

Manchester City will reportedly complete a world-record deal to sign John Stones from Everton in the coming days.

New City boss Pep Guardiola is in the market for a new centre-back due to concerns over the fitness of Vincent Kompany, and recently failed with a big-money bid for Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci.

Recent speculation has suggested that the Spaniard has now turned his attention to Stones, who has reportedly told Everton that he wants to leave Goodison Park this summer in order to join up with Guardiola.

TalkSPORT reports that the proposed move should be completed by the end of the week, with the 22-year-old set to become the most expensive defender in football history.

The fee taking the England international to the Etihad Stadium is rumoured to be around £53m, surpassing the current record of £50m that PSG paid for David Luiz in 2014.

Stones, who was also heavily linked with a move away from Merseyside last summer, would become City's third major signing of the summer after Ilkay Gundogan and Nolito.
