Manuel Pellegrini optimistic of James Milner stay

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini is hopeful that the club can convince James Milner to stay at the Etihad Stadium amid interest from Liverpool and Roma.

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini is optimistic that James Milner will remain with the club beyond his contract expiring in the summer.

The England international has been locked in negotiations with the Citizens over a new deal for the majority of the season, but the two parties have yet to come to an agreement.

Roma, Liverpool and Arsenal have all been linked with a move for the 29-year-old, leaving him to mull his options, but Pellegrini is hopeful that City can lure him to stay at the Etihad Stadium.

"Maybe City have already offered all that the club can offer, maybe it's not about more money, maybe there are different things to sign a new contract," Pellegrini told reporters.

"You must ask James what is happening with him. I hope he will find an arrangement, and I think it's possible."

Milner joined City in 2010 from Aston Villa.
