David Platt says that Manchester City will not spend big money in the January transfer window.

Manchester City coach David Platt has ruled out the club spending big money in the January transfer window.

The Premier League champions trail rivals Manchester United by seven points in the table, and will lose Kolo and Yaya Toure for several matches when they represent Ivory Coast at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Despite this, Platt believes that his side will not be spending much money over the course of the coming weeks.

"I don't expect much movement [in January]," said Platt. "It's very difficult to go out into the January market place and buy players that will improve Manchester City. Invariably the clubs those players are at don't want to let them go.

"It's important we look at everything but we won't have a mad rush at the office tomorrow because we've got an injury to a player and we're losing the Toures to the African Cup of Nations. We knew that would happen when we put the squad together and you have to cope with injuries with the squad you've got.

"If the right thing was there in January we'd look at it, but I don't think the right thing will be there."

City host Watford in the third round of the FA Cup on Saturday.
