Real Madrid plan to extend Luka Modric's contract at Bernabeu for another year until June 2023, according to a report.

Real Madrid are reportedly planning to extend Luka Modric's contract at the club until June 2023.

The Croatian's current deal with Los Blancos is due to expire next summer, but he remains a key player for the capital giants, contributing five assists in 17 appearances for Carlo Ancelotti's side this term.

The 36-year-old has recently been linked with a move to Manchester City amid suggestions that he was considering a return to the Premier League ahead of the 2022-23 campaign.

However, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, the La Liga leaders are preparing to hand the experienced midfielder an extension until June 2023.

Romano claims that Ancelotti and the 'whole Real Madrid board' still consider Modric to be a 'key player' despite his advancing years.

The Croatia international has made 408 appearances for Los Blancos since arriving from Tottenham Hotspur in 2012, winning two La Liga titles, one Copa del Rey and four Champions League crowns in the process.
