Ryan Giggs believes that Robin van Persie and Shinji Kagawa will be essential in Manchester United's Champions League campaign this season.

Manchester United midfielder Ryan Giggs believes that Robin van Persie and Shinji Kagawa have enough experience in Europe to give the Red Devils an advantage in the Champions League this season.

The former Premier League champions begin their campaign in the elite tournament tomorrow with a group match against Galatasaray.

"Robin has the experience of playing in Europe with Arsenal," said Giggs. "The goals he has got will hopefully give us that extra edge this season. Shinji is that kind of player who will thrive in Europe, where possession is key."

Meanwhile, United's local rivals Manchester City take on Real Madrid in their Champions League opener tonight.
