Pepe is doubt for Real Madrid's Champions League meeting with Manchester United because of an ankle problem.

Real Madrid defender Pepe could miss his side's Champions League clash with Manchester United in February after he underwent ankle surgery earlier today.

The 29-year-old, who is believed to have suffered with the injury for a number of months, will have to spend at least a month on the sidelines before he can resume training.

"Pepe had a cartilage injury in his right ankle. He had loose fragments in the joint, which had to be removed because it generated limitations and pain," said Mendes Espregueira, who helped perform the operation.

The opening leg between Madrid and United will take place at the Bernabeu on Wednesday, February 13.
