Europa League: Sevilla vs. Manchester United head-to-head record

Ahead of Thursday's Europa League quarter-final second leg between Sevilla and Manchester United, Sports Mole looks at the head-to-head record between the two clubs.

Sevilla will host Manchester United in the second leg of their Europa League quarter-final on Thursday night, with both sides bidding to reach the semi-finals of the competition.

The last-eight tie is delicately poised following a 2-2 draw in the first leg at Old Trafford, with Sevilla coming from two goals behind to level the scores in the latter stages of the contest.

Marcel Sabitzer's brace had put Man United in charge of the tie before own goals from Tyrell Malacia and Harry Maguire made it a frustrating finish for the 20-time English champions.

Erik ten Hag's side will enter the contest off the back of a 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on Sunday, while Sevilla beat Valencia 2-0 victory in La Liga in their last match.

Here, Sports Mole takes a look at the head-to-head record between Sevilla and Man United ahead of their meeting in Spain on Thursday night.

These two teams have locked horns on four previous occasions, and the English giants are still waiting for their first victory over the Spanish outfit, losing two and drawing two of their previous meetings.

The first contest between Sevilla and Man United took place in the last-16 stage of the Champions League during the 2017-18 campaign, with the first leg in Spain bringing a goalless draw.

Sevilla then shocked the 20-time English champions in the return fixture at Old Trafford, recording a 2-1 victory to advance to the quarter-finals of the competition.

Wissam Ben Yedder scored twice in the space of four second-half minutes to send Sevilla 2-0 ahead in the latter stages of the contest, and Romelu Lukaku's 84th-minute effort only proved to be a consolation for Jose Mourinho's side.

The third meeting between the two sides took place in the semi-finals of the Europa League in August 2020, with the fixture a one-off affair due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Bruno Fernandes's ninth-minute penalty sent Man United ahead in the behind-closed-doors fixture, but Suso levelled the scores in the 26th minute before Luuk de Jong won it for the La Liga side late on.

The Red Devils looked on course to record their first ever win over Sevilla last week, but the Spanish side recovered from a two-goal deficit to make it 2-2 in the latter stages, leaving the tie delicately poised ahead of what is shaping up to be a fascinating fixture on Thursday night.
