Wayne Rooney: 'Manchester United FA Cup win is for the fans'

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney wants his side's fans, who have endured "a tough two years", to enjoy the Red Devils' FA Cup win over Crystal Palace.

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has dedicated his side's FA Cup win to their fans, who have endured "a tough two years".

The Red Devils, who had not won silverware since 2013 prior to Saturday's final at Wembley, beat Crystal Palace 2-1 in extra time to claim their first trophy since Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement.

Rooney told reporters after the game: "Credit to Crystal Palace, they've had a tough end to the season, but we worked really hard and our determination has got us through.

"I'm delighted. It's a special moment. It's a competition I have loved watching as a fan growing up, I've been to two finals and lost, so I will enjoy it tonight for sure.

"Look at the fans, winning trophies lifts football clubs. The fans have had a tough two years but hopefully they will enjoy tonight."

This year's final was settled by Jesse Lingard's extra-time strike after Jason Puncheon and Juan Mata struck a goal each for their respective sides in the first 90 minutes.
