Tottenham Hotspur playmaker James Maddison is reportedly set to undergo a scan on the suspected foot injury he sustained against Manchester United.

Tottenham Hotspur playmaker James Maddison will reportedly undergo an imminent scan on the injury he sustained in Saturday's 2-0 win over Manchester United.

Ange Postecoglou picked up his first victory as Tottenham head coach against the Red Devils, as Pape Sarr's strike and Lisandro Martinez's own goal got Spurs off the mark in the Premier League.

As well as being Postecoglou's inaugural home game, Maddison made his competitive debut at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, playing the full 90 minutes of the match.

However, the England international sparked concern by emerging into the mixed zone on crutches after the game, raising fears of a potential absence through injury.

Maddison reportedly told journalists that it was only a precautionary measure, but according to The Athletic, the 26-year-old has been sent for a scan, which will take place at some point on Tuesday.

The report states that Maddison's issue is a suspected foot problem, but the Lilywhites are still assessing the damage as they wait to learn the severity of the former Leicester City man's injury.

Maddison has already established himself as a key player for Spurs since his arrival earlier in the summer, registering two assists on his debut against Brentford in last weekend's 2-2 draw.

The Englishman enjoyed another productive afternoon during the visit of Man United, creating two chances as well as completing two successful dribbles and five accurate long balls from six attempts.

Tottenham already have an extensive list of injuries to deal with during the embryonic stages of the campaign, as Maddison's fellow midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur is still recovering from his serious knee injury.

The Uruguayan suffered an anterior cruciate ligament rupture against Maddison's former club Leicester in February, and it will likely be another couple of months before he is seen on the field again.

Ryan Sessegnon and Bryan Gil have also undergone surgeries this summer, with the former - who has been plagued by numerous fitness issues during his time with Tottenham - going under the knife to address a hamstring injury.

Meanwhile, fellow left winger Gil is on the road to recovery from a groin operation, and neither the Spanish youngster nor Sessegnon are likely to return before October at the earliest.

Fringe goalkeeper Alfie Whiteman has an ankle problem too, but on a brighter note, Cristian Romero recovered from a bang to the head in time to start alongside Micky van de Ven against Man United.

Tottenham are next in action away to Bournemouth on Saturday lunchtime, three days before they begin their quest for EFL Cup glory against London rivals Fulham.
