Manchester United reportedly opt against operating on the knee injury which has been keeping Phil Jones on the sidelines since January.

Manchester United have reportedly decided against operating on Phil Jones' knee injury amid concerns over a prolonged time on the sidelines for the defender.

Jones has been restricted to just eight appearances across all competitions this season and has not featured for the Red Devils since their FA Cup victory over Tranmere Rovers in January.

However, with surgery likely to rule the 28-year-old out of action for the remainder of the year, The Mirror claims that United have instead chosen to continue with the rehabilitation programme they had initially drawn up for Jones.

The England international is under contract at Old Trafford until 2023, but United are believed to be keen to offload Jones during the summer transfer window, and a lengthy layoff through surgery would most likely lead to a lack of interest in the centre-back.

The former Blackburn Rovers man has amassed 224 appearances for United since his arrival in 2011, scoring six goals in that time.
