Manchester United reportedly fear that midfielder Mason Mount could be out for six weeks with a hamstring injury.

Manchester United midfielder Mason Mount could reportedly be sidelined for six weeks with a hamstring injury.

Mount had already been ruled out for three weeks after picking up an injury in Saturday's defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

While initial tests indicated that Mount would miss games against Nottingham Forest and Arsenal, there was an expectation that he would return to action after the international break.

However, according to the Daily Mail, there are now concerns that Mount's hamstring injury is worse than originally feared.

As a result, the Red Devils are worried that the England international could be out of action for the next six weeks.

Mount is now at risk of missing Man United's home Premier League meeting with Brighton & Hove Albion on September 16.

The Englishman could also be absent for the club's first Champions League group game, which is scheduled to take place the following week.

The injury setback will frustrate the 24-year-old, who missed the end of the 2022-23 campaign with Chelsea due to a pelvic injury.

After undergoing surgery, Mount recovered in time to take part in a full pre-season programme with Man United following his £65m move from Chelsea.

Erik ten Hag has started Mount in the club's opening two games of the new Premier League season - a 1-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers and a 2-0 defeat to Spurs.

Mount's absence could accelerate Man United's efforts to sign a new midfielder, while it may also affect Scott McTominay's future.

The Scotland international has been linked with a move away before the transfer window shuts on September 1, but there is a possibility that he could remain at the club to provide cover in the middle of the park.

The Red Devils will be back in action on Saturday when they welcome Nottingham Forest to Old Trafford.
