Manchester United reach an agreement with Ipswich Town over an initial loan deal for Brandon Williams, according to a report.

Manchester United have reportedly reached an agreement with Ipswich Town for Brandon Williams.

Red Devils head coach Erik ten Hag confirmed on Saturday that Williams was in discussions over a move away from the club and would therefore not be considered for selection.

The Englishman only has a deal at Old Trafford until next June, and he is not in the plans of Ten Hag for the 2023-24 campaign, sitting down the pecking order when it comes to both full-back positions.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano posted on Twitter that negotiations between Man United and Ipswich were 'advancing', with the Championship club moving to the head of the queue.

According to Football Insider, a switch has now been agreed, with Williams preparing to move to Portman Road on an initial loan deal, while there is expected to be the option to make the move permanent next summer.

Williams is technically out of contract next June, but there is a 12-month option in his deal, which Man United could potentially activate in order to sell him.

The versatile full-back came through the youth system at Old Trafford and has represented the 20-time English champions on 51 occasions in all competitions.

Williams's most productive season came in 2019-20, when he made 36 appearances in all competitions, including 17 outings in the Premier League.

The defender spent the 2021-22 campaign on loan at Norwich City, featuring on 29 occasions, but he has only played once for the Red Devils since his return.

A move to Ipswich would see Williams reunite with his former coach at Man United in the shape of Kieran McKenna, who has been in charge of the club since December 2021.

Williams is one of a number of players currently being linked with moves away from Ten Hag's side in the latter stages of the transfer window, with Donny van de Beek, Eric Bailly and Dean Henderson potentially also departing ahead of the deadline.

Man United are said to be keen to bring in two new players - a midfielder and a goalkeeper - before the end of the window, although any incomings will depend on players leaving Old Trafford.
