Mason Mount and Harry Maguire could both return to the Manchester United squad for Tuesday's EFL Cup clash with Crystal Palace.

Mason Mount and Harry Maguire could both return to the Manchester United squad for Tuesday's EFL Cup third-round contest with Crystal Palace at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils have been without the services of Mount since the clash with Tottenham Hotspur on August 19, with the summer arrival from Chelsea picking up a muscular injury in North London.

Mount was back in first-team training last week and had been expected to be named in the squad for Saturday's game with Burnley, but he was not present at Turf Moor.

The England international has been pictured in full training with the Red Devils ahead of Tuesday's EFL Cup contest with Palace, suggesting that he is likely to be involved at Old Trafford.

Maguire also took part in Monday's session, with the centre-back seemingly recovering from the issue that has seen him miss the last two games against Bayern Munich and Burnley.

Raphael Varane also made his return as a late substitute against Burnley, but Lisandro Martinez missed the game with the Clarets due to a foot issue, while Sergio Reguilon went off late on due to illness.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Luke Shaw, Kobbie Mainoo, Tyrell Malacia and Amad Diallo remain on the treatment table.

Antony is also still absent due to a personal issue, while Jadon Sancho continues to train away from the first team due to his fall-out with head coach Erik ten Hag.

Jonny Evans had cramp in the latter stages of the clash with Burnley but is expected to be available for selection against Palace, with the Northern Ireland international bidding to make his second successive start, having impressed against Vincent Kompany's side.

"In the summer, I heard he was in, he was to train with the Under-21s," Ten Hag told reporters when asked about Evans's arrival. "I said, 'Fletch (Darren Fletcher), come bring him in with the first team, maybe he can help us.'

"We decided to sign him because I think he can be really contributing in the squad. And today (Saturday) you have seen how massively important he can be."

Meanwhile, Evans told TNT Sports: "I loved every minute of it. Sometimes you get a feeling and I couldn't wait – you get pure excitement and coming up on the bus I was just so buzzing.

"I never thought I'd ever play 200 games but it was an absolute honour, and one of the best nights of my life just to come back and play for this club again. To be back here and in front of these fans was a dream come true and it couldn't have gone any better."

Man United are currently preparing for back-to-back matches against Palace, as the Eagles will also head to Old Trafford in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
