John Barnes: 'Wayne Rooney will score more than 15 goals for Manchester United this season'

Former Liverpool and England winger John Barnes backs Wayne Rooney to score more than 15 goals this season for Manchester United.

John Barnes has backed Wayne Rooney to score more than 15 goals for Manchester United this season.

Rooney has already netted seven times for the Red Devils, but only two of those strikes have come in the Premier League.

Nonetheless, Barnes has said that Rooney is his "favourite English player" and when asked by BT Sport how many goals he will score this season, Barnes said: "More than 15.

"I think he will once Manchester United find their feet and start to play in a different way.

"I love Wayne. He's my favourite English player and I think he'll score more than 15."

Barnes scored 165 goals in 586 appearances for Watford, Liverpool, Newcastle United and Charlton Athletic before retiring in 1999.
