Stan Collymore "frustrated" by Sir Alex Ferguson's book

Former Liverpool striker Stan Collymore says that he was left "frustrated" by reading Sir Alex Ferguson's book.

Stan Collymore has said that he was left "frustrated" by Sir Alex Ferguson's book.

Ferguson released his memoirs on Thursday, and discussed at length his decision not to sign Collymore in the mid-1990s from Nottingham Forest in the book.

"I have to say that was frustrating to read, especially as [the move] really did come very close to happening," Collymore told The Mirror.

"Fergie called my manager at the time, Frank Clark, and my agent Paul Stretford certainly made me aware he was interested. So, for him to come out with this comment now, is just him being wise after the event, in my opinion.

"I think that move could have been great for me, him and United. Certainly, I feel my life on and off the field may have taken a different path with Ferguson's guidance."

Ferguson's book has caused a stir since its release, with Liverpool legends Jamie Carragher and Kenny Dalglish expressing their displeasure with some of the views.

Carragher called Ferguson wrong to suggest that Reds captain Steven Gerrard was not a "top, top player".
