Former Manchester United captain Patrice Evra has questioned the club's decision to sign Donny van de Beek from Ajax during the summer transfer window.

The 23-year-old has made seven appearances for the Red Devils this season but has been restricted to just 59 minutes in the Premier League and was not used against Chelsea on Saturday evening.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insisted after the goalless draw with the Blues that the Netherlands international would be receiving regular games over the course of the campaign.

Evra, though, has said that his former club "don't need" the attacking midfielder, who penned a five-year contract with the 20-time English champions upon his arrival.

"We're talking about Van de Beek, nothing against the kid, but why have we bought him? He's watching the game from the stand every game," Evra told Sky Sports News. "We don't need him, that's the truth."

The Dutchman scored 41 times and registered 34 assists in 175 outings for Ajax ahead of a summer move.
