Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has compared veteran midfielder Paul Scholes to Tottenham Hotspur talisman Luka Modric.

The pair are likely to meet when the two sides face each other at White Hart Lane in the Premier League on Sunday.

"They are both intelligent footballers and both influence their teams," Ferguson told reporters. "Scholesy influences the Manchester United team as Modric does at Tottenham so it's a reasonable comparison.

"I don't think they're identical players, they are different types. But, nonetheless, they have the same qualities in terms of controlling the game and their passing consistency is good. One thing people often underestimate with Modric is his stamina."

United won the reverse fixture 3-0 at Old Trafford earlier in the season.
