Roy Hodgson: 'I could organise a pub team to stop Manchester United'

England manager Roy Hodgson says that he could get a pub team to stop Manchester United from scoring if he had six months of preparation.

England manager Roy Hodgson believes that he could organise a pub team to stop Manchester United from scoring with enough preparation.

The Three Lions boss is currently with his squad in Portugal as they get ready for next month's World Cup in Brazil.

Hodgson believes that if he had six months to prepare, he could get a less experienced side to prevent the likes of Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie from finding the back of the net.

"You can organise a pub team not to let in six goals against Manchester United," Hodgson told World Soccer magazine. "Give me six months and I'd organise them, if they had a half-decent goalkeeper and a couple of centre-halves who can get in the way of the ball.

"It's nice for people to believe some managers are born with a magical quality to transform bad into good. I don't. It's about leadership, practice, repetition and bloody hard work."

England's first Group D game is against Italy in Manaus on June 14.
