Jose Mourinho is reportedly keen on a second stint in charge of Manchester United, with current head coach Erik ten Hag under pressure at Old Trafford.

Jose Mourinho reportedly wants to replace Erik ten Hag as Manchester United manager this summer.

Dutchman Ten Hag is under increasing scrutiny from supporters and pundits alike following Man United's 4-0 defeat at Crystal Palace on Monday night in the Premier League.

An injury-hit visiting side were demolished at Selhurst Park, where Michael Olise bagged a brace, whilst Jean-Philippe Mateta and Tyrick Mitchell also got onto the scoresheet.

For the first time in the Premier League era, the Red Devils have now lost 13 games in a single season, with Ten Hag receiving plenty of criticism.

Man United are currently languishing in eighth position in the top-flight table, fighting to earn a European berth versus the likes of Newcastle and in-form Chelsea over the final games.

Mourinho eyeing up Man United return?

According to the Manchester Evening News, Mourinho is eyeing up a return to a managerial hotseat in the Premier League ahead of the 2024-25 term.

The report claims that the Portuguese would like a second shot at taking charge of Manchester United, who could make a change of leadership in the summer.

It is understood that Mourinho has informed close friends that he would 'walk' to Old Trafford if handed the opportunity to manage the club once more.

The 61-year-old is said to be good friends with United's new minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who has assumed control of football operations from the Glazer family.

However, it is believed that the INEOS group are not looking at Mourinho as a potential replacement for Ten Hag as the season draws to its conclusion.

Comparing Mourinho and Ten Hag

During his stint in charge at Old Trafford, Mourinho managed to win an unconventional treble with Manchester United during the 2016-17 campaign.

The Portuguese guided the Red Devils to the Europa League, EFL Cup and Community Shield during just his first term in control on the red side of Manchester.

Similarly, Ten Hag enjoyed a productive maiden term as Man United manager during 2022-23, steering his side to EFL Cup success and Champions League qualification.

This season has proved more challenging though, and there have been no guarantees that the Dutchman is in charge of the club by the start of next campaign.
