Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho says that he was pleased with Alexis Sanchez's performance in Wednesday's 2-0 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur.

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has said that he was pleased with Alexis Sanchez's performance in Wednesday's 2-0 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur.

Sanchez made his Premier League debut for United at Wembley, but it was a disappointing night for the Red Devils as they suffered a two-goal loss in the English capital.

The former Arsenal forward struggled to make his mark during the 90 minutes of football, although Mourinho has praised the Chilean for 'giving everything' in a bid to turn the tide.

"He worked hard, but again the transformation the game had, the game was not for him," Mourinho told reporters. "In the second half, I tried to give him a position where he could be closer to [Romelu] Lukaku but then he felt the need to drop too much to organise.

"But he gave everything, good effort and this is a good feeling for me to know that the player is available with that spirit."

United will look to bounce back from the defeat when they host Huddersfield Town in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
