Louis van Gaal watches as Manchester United Under-18s exit FA Youth Cup

Louis van Gaal watches on from the stands as Manchester United's Under-18 team are thumped 5-1 by their Chelsea counterparts in the FA Youth Cup on Friday night.

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal was in the stands as his club's Under-18 team were thumped 5-1 by their Chelsea counterparts in the FA Youth Cup on Friday night.

The Dutchman sat alongside assistant coach Ryan Giggs for the clash at Altrincham, but he would not have been impressed as Paul McGuinness's side were outclassed by a slick Chelsea team, who have won the FA Youth Cup in each of the last two years.

Man United, whose youth set-up has been criticised in recent months, have now lost their last 10 games at Under-18 level and 11 of their last 12.

Van Gaal will now switch his focus to first-team matters, with the Red Devils due to welcome Southampton in the Premier League on Saturday.
