Manchester United have reportedly cooled their interest in Antonio Conte due to the cost of bringing the Italian to the club.

The Italian has been strongly linked with the managerial role at Old Trafford, with current head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer under severe pressure amid a poor run of form.

However, according to the Daily Star, the 20-time English champions are fast 'losing interest' in Conte, as it would be 'hugely expensive' to bring the 52-year-old to the club.

The report claims that the former Chelsea boss would want a deal worth £18m a season until June 2025, while he would demand to bring in his own backroom staff, meaning that Man United coaches Michael Carrick, Mike Phelan and Kieran McKenna would all have to be moved on.

Conte would also allegedly demand that the Red Devils sign a new holding midfielder and full-back during the January transfer window to allow him to switch to a 3-5-2 formation.

As a result, Man United are believed to be considering alternatives to the former Juventus midfielder, with Solskjaer's position far from secure despite keeping his job after the 5-0 loss to Liverpool last weekend.
