Michael Carrick reveals his delight following his return to the England team during the victory over Italy.

Michael Carrick has revealed that he is looking forward to his international future following his return for England on Wednesday evening.

The Manchester United midfielder played 90 minutes as Roy Hodgson's team recorded a 2-1 victory over Italy in Berne, and the 31-year-old was given the captain's armband in the closing stages.

Carrick ruled himself out of contention for Euro 2012 but insists that he is delighted to begin playing for the Three Lions again.

"I'm more than happy to be here. I have spoken to the manager and what has gone on in the past, I have drawn a line under that," Carrick told Sky Sports News. "I think there was confusion because people thought that I said if I wasn't going to play then I didn't want to be there. That's certainly not the case, anyone who knows me knows I'm not like that at all.

"I was happy to play tonight, more than happy, and I'm looking forward to the future and what's ahead."

Carrick has earned 23 caps for England.
