Report: Ex-Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho appointed as new Manchester United manager

Former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho reportedly puts pen to paper on a contract to become Manchester United's new manager.

Manchester United have appointed Jose Mourinho as their new manager, according to multiple reports.

The former Chelsea boss is said to have been in negotiations with the Red Devils since Tuesday, and was understood to have agreed both his salary and the length of his contract at Old Trafford.

Talks then went into a third day due to a hold-up regarding image rights, but it is believed that these issues have been resolved.

Sky Sports News journalist Andy Burton, reporting from outside Mourinho's house, said: "[Mourinho] has signed his deal.

"He went to a central London hotel, where he met United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward and signed the United contract.

"He returned home with documents in his hand and a bottle of wine. It comes on a very special and poignant day for Mourinho. It's been 12 years since he won the Champions League with Porto."

The 53-year-old, who has been out of work since being sacked by the Blues in December, will succeed Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford after the Dutchman saw his two-year tenure ended on Monday.
