Stoke City striker Peter Odemwingie has revealed that a pre-match speech from Mark Hughes inspired the team to their historic 2-1 win over Manchester United on Saturday.
Charlie Adam struck in either half to cancel out a Robin van Persie equaliser and seal the Potters' first victory over the Red Devils in the Premier League era in the process.
Odemwingie, who arrived at the Britannia Stadium from Cardiff City in the final week of the January transfer window, admits that he is delighted to have marked his debut with a win, which was inspired by a pep-talk from the manager.
"It felt great, I've played here a couple of times before but today's support was fantastic," Odemwingie told reporters. "I felt welcome from the first day I came here and to start with a victory here on my home debut feels really good.
"The manager's speech (before the game) was very inspiring. If we keep going like this we are going to achieve everything we want this season."
Stoke, who climb to 11th in the standings following the scalp, travel to the South Coast for a clash with Southampton next Saturday.
