Manchester United defender Phil Jones pleased with injury return

Manchester United defender Phil Jones reveals that he is elated to be back in action after missing the first six weeks of the season due to injury.

Manchester United defender Phil Jones has admitted that he is delighted to be back in action following a frustrating period on the sidelines due to injury.

The England international developed a blood clot in one of his calves when United returned from their pre-season tour of the United States and was ruled out for the first six weeks of the season.

However, he returned to the starting lineup, after making three substitute appearances, against Everton and helped his side keep a clean sheet, while the Red Devils followed it up with another resilient display in their goalless draw with Manchester City.

Jones told the club's official website: "You can't control it. It was one of the most frustrating periods of my career, sitting at home not being able to do anything.

"I was in the gym every day and the lads were playing. I just wanted to be part of it and I wasn't part of it. You just have to forget about it and move on.

"I don't think anyone will ever realise how hard it is at times. But I don't want any sympathy. I am just happy to be back."

Jones has made 132 appearances since joining United from Blackburn Rovers in 2011.
