Paul Pogba: 'You do not have to be captain to speak'

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba insists that he does not need the captain's armband to be heard in the dressing room.

Paul Pogba has suggested that he will continue to air his thoughts in public, despite being stripped of Manchester United's vice-captaincy by Jose Mourinho.

The 25-year-old midfielder was informed last month that he will never skipper the Red Devils again after openly criticising his manager's tactics.

Pogba insists that he does not need the captain's armband to be heard, however, and he believes that he is at a perfect age to act as a dressing-room leader.

"You don't have to be captain in order to speak, a leader is not someone who has the armband," he is quoted as saying by The Mirror.

"As a leader you can talk on the pitch but I've seen leaders who didn't necessarily talk. With my age, 25 years old, I'm between the two sets of players, the oldest and the youngest. That allows me to relay messages and have the chance to be heard."

Pogba is currently away on international duty with France and could feature in the friendly with Iceland on Thursday.
