Premier League: Who will be the leading goalscorer?

Sports Mole selects five players that could claim the Premier League golden boot next season.

The Premier League returns this weekend, which means that the bookmakers will be receiving numerous bets over the coming days.

While many will put their cash on who will be successful and who be relegated, some will opt for the top goalscorer market.

With that in mind, Sports Mole has selected five players that we feel will offer good value for money over the coming weeks and months.

The safe bets:

Sergio Aguero

The Argentine had a highly impressive first season in the Premier League, having netted 23 goals as Manchester City went on to win the title. Manager Roberto Mancini has since challenged the striker to get closer to the 30-goal mark next time around. As his strike partnership with compatriot Carlos Tevez goes from strength to strength, 24-year-old Aguero could potentially exceed his manager's expectations.

Odds: 7/1

Wayne Rooney

The addition of Shinji Kagawa could increase the number of goals that Rooney scores next season. The Japanese international earned himself the reputation as a creative midfielder during his stint with Borussia Dortmund and many have tipped him to work in tandem with the England striker. That's not to say that Rooney did too badly last season - he still scored 26 league goals.

Odds: 15/2

Mid-range bets:

Fernando Torres

Torres's loss of form over the past couple of years has been the source of much head scratching for many. Just when it looks as though as he has rediscovered the magic, the clinical touch deserts him. However, he was the leading goalscorer at Euro 2012 and opened up his account for the season during the Community Shield. A fit and firing Torres will be close to claiming the golden boot.

Odds: 11/1

Carlos Tevez

If the pint-sized Argentine decides to grace the Premier League with his presence for an entire campaign, he should net 20+ goals. Having put the drama of last season behind him, Tevez appears to have worked hard on his fitness over the summer. He looked extremely lean during the Community Shield, where he scored a decent goal from the edge of the area. Like Aguero, he could really benefit from playing alongside his fellow countryman.

Odds: 16/1

The each-way bet:

Nikica Jelavic

There were few strikers that were more clinical than Jelavic from January onwards last season. Having joined Everton from Rangers, the Croatian went on to score nine goals from just 13 appearances. At that rate, he would have netted around 26 goals over a full campaign. With the likes of Steven Pienaar supplying him with chances, Jelavic should have little problem making himself a contender for the prize over the coming months.

Odds: 28/1
