Jamie Redknapp has expressed his belief that Michael Carrick's return to the Manchester United midfield is one of the main reasons for their resurgence.
Louis van Gaal's men picked up their sixth win in a row in the Premier League as they defeated Liverpool at Old Trafford, and Redknapp feels that the 33-year-old's influence in the middle has helped his side's attacking players flourish.
He told the Daily Mail: "Michael Carrick has started the last six games for Manchester United and they have won every one. That is not a coincidence.
"He is so versatile and experienced and his calming influence is helping the rest of the team. He is a good, honest player and he doesn't try to overcomplicate things — all he has is a nasty habit of passing to his own teammates.
"But it's not just that he takes the easy option every time. He is always looking to pass it forward and get his attacking players on the ball in dangerous positions."
United are third in the Premier League following their win at Old Trafford.
