Sir Alex Ferguson admits that he will "wait" on Wayne Rooney's injury before deciding whether he will feature against Newcastle on Saturday.

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney could be ruled out with injury for the Red Devils' home clash against Newcastle United on Saturday.

The 26-year-old was absent from Sir Alex Ferguson's side that drew 2-2 with Benfica in the Champions League last night.

"He wasn't fit [for the Benfica game], so we need to wait to see what he is like over the next few days," said Ferguson.

"We will give him every chance, of course - we did for this, but he wasn't really fit, so we'll just have to wait."

The Red Devils sit five points below Premier League leaders Manchester City.
