Wayne Rooney expected to face Benfica

Wayne Rooney is expected to start for Manchester United tomorrow against Portuguese side Benfica.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that Wayne Rooney is likely to start tomorrow's Champions League match against Benfica.

The 26-year-old was forced to miss training this morning, but Ferguson has described Rooney's problem as just a "knock".

Looking ahead to the Benfica clash, Ferguson has described it as a "big game".

"It's a big game, a game that we recognise as a real European game with the history between us," said the Scot.

"We lost our last encounter over there 2-1. Our performance in the first game was good."

Ferguson also confirmed that Jonny Evans should be fit after a hamstring complaint.
