Wayne Rooney starts for Manchester United Under-21s at Old Trafford

Wayne Rooney starts for Manchester United Under-21s in tonight's game against Middlesbrough at Old Trafford.

Wayne Rooney has been handed a starting spot in the Manchester United Under-21s lineup for this evening's match against Middlesbrough at Old Trafford.

The club captain has not played for the senior side since February 13 because of a knee injury, but as expected, the striker will be given a run-out today.

At the weekend, Van Gaal claimed that Rooney will play 60 minutes for the development side, which also includes defender Phil Jones.

The striker intends to step up his recovery as he hopes to finish the season and be fit to captain England in this summer's European Championships in France.

In 22 Premier League appearances this season, Rooney has scored seven goals.
