Wayne Rooney to be rested by Manchester United?

Manchester United could rest striker Wayne Rooney to aid his recovery from a toe injury, according to reports.

Manchester United manager David Moyes could reportedly keep striker Wayne Rooney on the sidelines in an attempt to aid his recovery from a toe injury.

Rooney missed last weekend's 4-0 win at Newcastle United with the problem, but a pain-killing injection helped the forward feature in United's 3-1 defeat against Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Wednesday evening.

However, according to The Mirror, Moyes is considering resting Rooney for the club's upcoming games after the 28-year-old experienced discomfort during the match in Germany.

Moyes is keen to prevent the issue from lingering into the World Cup and the next campaign, and with United unlikely to mount a challenge on fourth spot, Rooney could be allowed to miss his side's fixtures with Everton and Norwich City.
