Paul Scholes says that he does not believe that England will win a major tournament in the near future.

Paul Scholes has said that the England national team are "pampered" and does not believe that the side will win a major tournament in the near future.

The former Manchester United midfielder, who retired from international football following Euro 2004, insists that the constant change in the managerial position damages any chance of stability.

"I think the England team these days are treated like world superstars from what they do at club level," Scholes told Red News. "I don't think that helps when they go to England, because they're all mollycoddled and pampered.

"I just think the England manager these days changes that often there can never be that stability. I think managers just go out for the England job for the money these days."

When asked if he could see England winning either Euro 2012 or the 2014 World Cup, he said: "You would always like to say 'yes' but, for me, at the minute, no I can't."

Scholes made over 450 league appearances for United during his time at Old Trafford, scoring over 100 goals.
