Ryan Giggs believes that it is "impossible" for Manchester United to replace Paul Scholes.

Ryan Giggs has claimed that Manchester United will never be able to replace his former teammate Paul Scholes.

Scholes called time on his career at the end of last season after a 20-year association with the Red Devils.

United were continually linked with a move for Inter Milan's Wesley Sneijder over the summer as an alternative, although a deal never materialised. Meanwhile Tom Cleverley's performance in midfield has led to a number of people drawing comparisons with Scholes.

Giggs believes that instead of trying to find a replica of the 36-year-old former England international, United should instead move on.

"Will you get another Paul Scholes?" he said during an interview with MUTV. "No. Never. Not in a million years.

"Getting someone in like for like is impossible. But the club has to go on. We have to evolve. That is the Manchester United way."

Giggs, 37, has made three appearances for United this season.
